Student’s advisory system can curb drug abuse among students – VC FUD

The Federal University, Dutse has introduced a mentor-mentee and students advisory system to address illicit activities among students.

Vice-Chancellor, of the university, Prof. Abdulkarem Sabo Muhammad disclosed this at an interactive session with the media on Monday.

He said the university discovered that students engage in some sexual activities and drug abuse for lack of proper guidance.

Abdulkarem explained that the advisory system aims to create a closer relationship between students and their lecturers who will serve as their guardians throughout their stay at the university.

“The lectures will put an eye not just on the student’s academic performance but also monitor the social and emotional interactions of the student to guide them since their parents are not around”

Recently, a 400 level student of Mathematics at the university had committed suicide after his girlfriend rejected him.

The Vice-Chancellor explained that the system is widely practised in foreign Universities where each student will be attached to a guardian when admitted into University.
