Acting Executive Director for the National Service Scheme (NSS) Gifty Oware-Aboagye has debunked reports suggesting NSS postings have been released.

There were reports on several social media platforms suggesting that the scheme had released postings for 2021 service personnel.

But speaking on Ghana Television in an interview, Gifty Oware-Aboagye indicated that it’s impossible for postings to be released when the academic year for various Tertiary Institutions in the country has not ended.

She indicated that the information received by prospective service personnel were as a result of the Scheme testing its interfaces to ensure their preparedness for this year’s postings.

“To correct something, it’s not true that postings have been released. Our first process when we release postings is to send SMS to our personnel which has not been done. Rather what happened last night was that as a process of trying to see how our interface looks like, there was an opening of the interface and obviously there are service personnel who are always online trying to check so, in the course of the process, some of them saw it.”

Gifty Oware-Aboagye noted that over the years National Service usually start on 1st September but today, postings are yet to be released to the prospective service personnel because the academic calendar has not ended and therefore postings cannot be done.

“It’s August 30 and most schools haven’t been able to complete and then our process commences when schools complete. So you cannot do service whiles you are in school, you are supposed to be a graduate before you can do service. It’s obvious the effect COVID had on academia is also having a similar effect on us. Almost all our processes are done and we are only waiting for schools to finally say we are done with school, people have graduated then we can proceed and issue then National Service commences.”

On whether the Service will increase its allowance this year, Gifty Oware-Aboagye indicated that it’s impossible because all budgetary allocations have been approved and therefore considerations for an increase can be done in subsequent years.
