The current Director-General in Charge of Special Duties at the Police Administration, COP Christian Tetteh Yohunu will become the next Inspector-General of Police (IGP) under National Democratic Congress (NDC) government even when he is no more in the service
“As for the IGP slot, even Mr Tetteh Yohunu can go home and sleep; after three, four years, somebody will come and say Please, come back and become IGP because it is by political appointment”, NDC Member of Parliament (MP) for Wa West, Peter Lanchene Toobu disclosed on Accra100.5FM’s morning show, Ghana Yensom on Friday, 23 July 2021 monitored by MyNewsGh.com.
The retired police officer, who was the Executive Secretary to former IGP David Asante Apeatu however admonished all the rank and file of the Police Service to support the newly IGP, Dr. George Akufo Dampare who took office yesterday 1st August 2021.
“Policing is not all about being IGP… the IGP slot is by appointment”, the NDC lawmaker pointed out to host, Kwame Appiah Kubi.
Adding: “Let Mr Nathan Kofi Boakye, Mr Christian Tetteh Yohunu and all the Commissioners at the police headquarters be happy that they’ve served Ghana and they’ve hit the top – they are Commissioners. Period!” Hon. Peter Lanchene Toobu”
Meanwhile, Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) James Oppong-Boanuh has called on personnel in the Ghana Police Service to support the new IGP to succeed in his new position.
According to him, what the people of Ghana need is a peaceful environment and that will be achieved only when there is support for the head of the Ghana Police Service.
“It is in this vein that I want to urge all personnel of the Service and the good people of this country to give the necessary support to the incoming Acting IGP and his Administration to effectively discharge the core mandate of the Police Service to maintain law and order,” he said.
