The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Assin North Member of Parliament James Gyakye Quayson has appealed a Cape Coast High Court decision to quash the 2020 Parliamentary election.
After several backs and forth, a High Court in the Central Region, Cape Coast has declared the 2020 parliamentary election held in the Assin North Constituency as null and void and ordered a fresh re-run.
The ruling was given on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, by the court presided over by Justice Kwasi Boakye.
In his judgement, Justice Boakye upheld that, the National Democratic Congress’ 2020 parliamentary candidate for the constituency, Joe Gyaakye Quayson breached the provisions of the constitution with regard to dual citizenship.
But the Member of Parliament James Quayson has today Monday August 2, 2021, appealed the ruling of the Cape Coast High Court.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament is seeking the Appeals Court to declare the ruling as void having been issued out of the jurisdiction.
He also prays the court to set aside the ruling of Justice Kwasi Boakye of the High Court in the Central Region, Cape Coast and also setting aside the award of cost to the petitioner.
