Ondo state police has recently arrested a 24- year old farmer identified as Mr Mohammed for allegedly raping a 67- year old grandmother also identified as Ibunkun Akilo, the suspect is currently facing a lone count charge of rape.
The state’ s police prosecutor disclosed that the suspect’ s offence is legitimately punishable under section 358 of the criminal code CAP 37 Volume 1 Laws of Ondo state. The suspect was later arraigned in the state’ s magistrate court as one of the police inspector urged the court to get the accused person remanded pending legal advise from the Department of Public Prosecution.
The preceding magistrate was also reported to have remanded the suspect, Mr Mohammed, at the state’ s Criminal Investigation Department awaiting advise from the Department of Public Prosecution.
The accused was reported to have been interrogated by the police before his case was transferred to the court where he plainly confessed to the crime and narrated how he perpetrated the outrageous act,
He revealed that he committed the act when the victim was returning from the market, he said before he finally raped the old woman, he usually goes to the market where the victim sells farm produce to watch her claiming that he has feelings for her, in fact at some point in time, he supplies farm produce to her.
The victim is currently hospitalized due to the cuts and bruises she got on her private part, she is currently receiving adequate medical treatment and according to the medical examiners, she is stabilized and also recovering from the traumatic experience.
She was also interviewed by the police as she narrates her devastating ordeal, she revealed that the event happened while she was returning from the market place, as she got to a bushy area on the route of the market, the suspect jumped out of the bush and dragged her into the bush and took advantage of her.
