Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has revealed that the Government of Ghana has deployed more troops and security equipment to the Northern part of Ghana following recent terrorist threats.

In June, the Ghana Police Service issued a red alert to its commanders up North indicating an impending attack by bandits from neighbouring Burkina Faso.

The Police said the criminals who are believed to be terrorists had already entered Ghana through the porous borders and were going to strike with their Military-Grade Weapons.

Speaking in an interview with Accra-based Asaase Radio, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah indicated that the government has since done a lot to ensure that any of such attacks are avoided.

He indicated that “more troops, more equipment have been moved up North”.

The Information Minister noted that there is reason to believe that these terrorists are recruiting in Ghana and therefore there is a lot more to do to help fight the menace.

The Minister noted that the security situation in West Africa is gradually becoming volatile and needs attention from all stakeholders.
