An Awo prince, Abubakar Adeniyi has petitioned the Osun State Governor, Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola to call the Jogunade family of Awo to order over their sudden claim of being from the Abioye Ruling House of Awo.

Prince Adeniyi urged the state and local governments to warn the three members of the Jogunade family, Oloyede Babatunde Sikiru, Lawal Oloyede Jogunade and Jogunade Adegbiji Olanipekun against causing any communal crisis in the ancient town.

While explaining that the immediate past Alawo of Awo, Oba Musa Olatunbosun Adebayo who died on Wednesday 24th June 2020 was from the Akinsilo Ruling House, he said the Jogunade family was never enlisted as part of the Ruling Houses in any of the existing gazettes on Alawo of Awo Chieftaincy Declaration, from the 1957 Chieftaincy Declaration or the subsisting 1978 Chieftaincy Declaration on Alawo stool.

He claimed that since it was the turn of the Abioye Ruling House to produce the next Alawo, their claim to be members of the Abioye Ruling House is insubordination in the selection process of a new monarch for the community.

Reacting, Oloyede Babatunde Sikiru told DAILY POST via a phone chat that it is the petitioner Abubakar who is not a prince and member of the Abioye Ruling House.

While stating that he is a bonafide member of the Abioye Ruling House as well as a prince, he revealed that the petitioner, Abubakar Adeniyi is a member of the Ikolaba Chieftaincy Family and are only entitled to Alaagba and Ikolaba chieftaincy titles.

According to him, since the next Alawo is to be produced by the Abioye Ruling House, he is the candidate that the family has presented to ascend the throne as the traditional ruler of the town.

Sikiru also explained that based on the petition by Adeniyi, he had appeared twice before the Awo Divisional Police Officer but the petitioner had failed to appear and defend his petition.

He stated said the matter is now pending in court to determine the authentic member of the Abioye Ruling House that will produce the next Alawo.

He alleged that Adeniyi and his supporters are using political powers to distort the process of the emergence of a new Alawo in the community.
