While jumping into the defense of the government and President Nana Akufo-Addo on the renting of another luxurious aircraft on his recent foreign trips to the UK and Germany, founder and leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Mr. Percival Kofi Akpaloo has stated his position on the matter.
According to him, LPG is in full support of the hiring of jet costing the state £14,000 per hour totaling GH¢3.46 million.
“I as founder and leader of LPG, we see nothing wrong since the life of our President matters. One day, I will also become President of this country so I must treat Nana Akufo-Addo the same way I would like to be treated. We are all in opposition but the stance of NDC is wrong”, he said.
Speaking on Kumasi-based Otec FM monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Mr. Kofi Akpaloo admonished Ghanaians to look at the positive side of the President’s trip instead of kowtowing to the whims and caprices of the NDC.
“Okudzeto and NDC surrogates should look at the benefit the President’s trip into the country than being political. If the jet is so expensive, so what?” the LPG founder told the host.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Defence Minister, Dominic Nitiwul, justified the president’s decision to rent the aircraft, arguing that the capacity of the presidential aircraft can no longer carry the president’s entourage.
“The decision to travel particularly to long and multiple destinations such as the president travelling to France, Belgium, South Africa and back to Ghana especially during this Covid time will always require a larger capacity aircraft such as a DBKJ or an aircraft ATJ 319 even when the Falcon is air ready,” the Defense Minister told Parliament on June 16.
He told the House that regarding the cost incurred on the trip, the Finance Minister is best to provide those details.
