Music duo, Akatakyie which is made up of two brothers, Prince Kwabena Budu Asumaning (Kobby Culture) and Ebenezer Kwasi Okyere Asumaning (King Pharoah)has said that they have been broke for eight years now.
Speaking to Kleff Maxwell Justice (KMJ) on Hitz Fm’s “DayBreakHitz”, Akatakyie revealed that they were not signed onto Soul Records and never had a contract back then because they took the C.E.O of Soul Records as their father and had so much respect for him even though many record labels were chasing them with huge sums of monies to sign them onto their labels.
KMJ further asked, won’t people say you misused the huge sums of money you had when the music game was favorable for you back then?
“No not at all, the money we had back then in our hay days in music wasn’t that huge and we helped a lot of people in those days. We believe it’s part of life and we are now starting–this is just the beginning of Akatakyie so watch out for great stuff ahead as we’ve signed a new contract with Las Vegas Production” – Akatakyie said when KMJ asked if they misused their monies back then.
What do you think is the problem now for most Hiplife musicians and their music? KMJ questioned.
“We blame the Dj’s , Presenter, Producers and engineers, basically, all of us are the reasons and most Dj’s and Presenters don’t play hiplife songs. Some hiplife musicians don’t also do good production now while some are not able to fit into the competition”, Akatakyie explained.
