The Catholic Church of Ghana has been sadly hit by a sad news. The church is currently facing difficult times as one of its branches has been gutted by fire with properties worth millions of Ghana Cedis being burnt into ashes.
The St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in the Prestea Huni Valley Municipality of the Western Region has caught fire leading to the destruction of some church items.
The fire which begun in the evening after a normal church service is reported to have been triggered from an electrical switch.
Community members of the area in all efforts to quench the fire was unsuccessful. It took the intervention of the Ghana National Fire Service before the fire was brought under control.
Some properties that were affected include Sacramental, chasubles, and church instruments. Others include Communion wine, stoves, and other important documents.
Pictures available indicates the roof of the entire church building was consumed by the fire. The entire building also developed physical cracks in the process.
Station Officer Ebenezer Kpodo, the Municipal fire safety officer indicated in an interview that his outfit has begun investigations into the cause of the fire. He advised Ghanaians to be weary of fire
He also advised that the fire service should be the first point of call during an outbreak of fire. The Catholic Church may have to find a way of replacing the lost properties to enable them worship their maker without hindrance.
